Well school has officially commenced. Though there is still a delay in lectures.
It turns out the 3 main courses we would be battling are ANATOMY, BIOCHEMISTRY & PHYSIOLOGY. I had heard that like a dozen times...but it's feels different to actually experience it.
Without much ado, one has to dance to the tune of school. And that's much more than digging a "Keith Moore" or Huge textbooks for hours. It's more like living your life - academically, spiritually, socially, morally....more like all-round knowledge.
But still the top priority is obvious.
It's said - " The journey of a thousand miles, begins with a step" . For me, this is the STEP
JUST MEDICAL SCHOOL

The Perfect Idea
School should be resuming soon. I guess one wouldn't even have much time to spare ...leisure, and all that. On the other hand, I think it boils down to one thing - TIME MANAGEMENT
Medical school would be quite interesting and I hope to tell the Tale

UNILAG (CMUL) WEBSITE HACKED!
Was just doing a little stroll on the internet - and guess what?
The website of the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL) had been hacked. You could check it out as at now[11:23pm, 16th March] - cmul.unilag.edu.ng
Photo : 16th March, 2014
Something of this nature had been perpetrated before in 2013.
I quote "....The website of the University of Lagos College of Medicine, http://www.cmul.edu.ng/, has been hacked. When it was done, no one could tell, but as at this morning (June 17) the landing page of the website contains claims by two hackers identifying themselves as "HustLerZ" and "Parrain" is displaying gibberish which our in-house nerds say is part of a javascript program used to hack the site via what they called "SQL injection".

PLEASE!!! SHORTLIST ME!
Getting shortlisted for that scholarship of your choice is but the first stage. It is also a very crucial one as those left behind have no chance/experience whatsoever. So how do you get shortlisted? What is the criteria for being shortlisted?
Here you will go through a series of guidelines where one easily gets it wrong :
ELIGIBILTY
1) Eligibilty/requirements for applying are usually spelt out in the application site. Your current level can be a determining factor as some scholarships regard only Freshers or just 100 and 200level students
2) If you are already a benefactor of a similar scholarship e.g oil& gas coys, you stand a chance of missing out. Even when you are shortlisted
3) Community awards are also restricted to people from a specific region
DOCUMENTS
1) Make sure all your documents are complete during uploading
2) Documents must be proper format and size - most people make the mistake of uploading a document in "jpg" format when it should be "pdf" or another. The size limit should also be considered as you could be directed not to exceed maybe 50/200kb for passports and 2/3mb for scanned docs
3) Naming of documents should be done properly - attaching a wrong document is as good as not submitting 'cos no one would have the time to sort it out for you
PROCESS
1) Double application can be an automatic disqualification ticket
2) Refreshing of pages/going back with a browser during application is often advised against - so make sure you are fully prepared before applyinq/uploading
3) Ignoring Deadlines would lead to a dead-end. Speaking of deadlines - "the early bird catches the worm" . Early application should give you an edge so be informed.
ADMISSION STATUS
1) Preference is usually given to FULL-TIME 100 level students as opposed to Direct-entry candidates especially in first year. Notwithstanding 200 level is an opportunity to make up for lost chance
With the afformentioned done properly, you stand a bright chance of being equally shortlisted as any other person!

12 YEARS !
" ...it's just inexplicable. You imagine to be in his shoes but you are broken even before it began"
You just can't.
Looking back at the past years, the heaviness in his heart could be seen vaporizing. The chains being shattered. Absolutely awed and dumbfounded. Unexplainable. Overwhelming. Hope illuminating the entire place. Freedom
The photo scene evokes a feeling. The absence of which one could be lost to depair. It is often said - "You never know the value of what you have until you lose it". Freedom is priceless. Captivity (mental/physical) on the otherhand is debilitating and crushing.
It pays to be open-minded, thinking freely and letting go of every depressing state rather than being enslaved/imprisoned by our state of altered mind-set - distractions, worries, problems, mistakes, environment etc
Once a serene environment is established in ones consciousness, one becomes sane even in a hostile or insane environment.
I'm advocating the mind is cleared of every mental plug or debris that impedes free flow of thoughts, ideas and knowledge
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free - John 8 : 32
The knowledge of the truth or knowledge itself, [we all know] sets one free. His name was "Solomon Northup"...he lived with a lie of a name - "Platt" . Ignorance on its own is a disease. And yet, there are a billion and one aspects of life - with people indulging in one activity or the other. By hook or crook. You get all you can, and can all you get, then sit on the can and let it spoil.
Discrimination, anger, ambush, hatred, bitterness, jealousy, poverty etc - all 'free particles of dirt' around a bad workman, who quarrels with his tools. It's unfortunate that one can still lock up him/herself up mentally, breeding a messed up state. Creating a vicious circle of stagnancy and ill will. Perhaps, it becomes not "12 years a slave - but a slave for enternity"

Textbooks. YES! textbooks
So the thing is this. As a medical student (prospective) what comes to mind is...O my! which textbooks 'm I getting now! Especially when you are aware that some colleagues might have slighted you. Reading ahead, you assume.
Basically, the main courses usually include ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY and BIOCHEMISTRY. Other courses or branches also come up. Like - Embryology, Histology etc
I was able to come up with a common list of these "useful" textbooks, which indeed, I will also find useful.
ANATOMY
1) Clinically Oriented Anatomy - by Keith Moore
Now, most people might say COA contains a lot of irrelevant information...it's too big and all that. I think it's bulkiness is it's resourcefulness. And you can't underestimate the blue boxes
And mmm...it's just 1134pgs
2) Gray's Anatomy - by Richard L Drake et al
